Prayer involves a lot of things - This page is dedicated to four traditional aspects of prayer. It is good to have each of these aspects be a part of our ever all prayer. Maybe we do not use each of them every time we pray, but praying each of these ways will help us have a full life of prayer.
Note - all of these aspects are found in the Lords Prayer.
1. Praise and Thanks
2. Repent
3. Ask
4. Yield
Note - all of these aspects are found in the Lords Prayer.
1. Praise and Thanks
- We praise God for who God is - just because God is great!!
- We also thank God for all he had done in creation, in history and in our lives
2. Repent
- Repent literally means to "Turn" thus, we turn away from sin and back to God.
- This is a big part of our search for forgiveness
- We first turn away from sin
- And now that we are facing God we ask for forgiveness
3. Ask
- God desires to give us good things, so a big part of pray is our petitions to him
- These can be for our needs, and the needs of those we love
- This part of the prayer can become "God the vending machine" - And this is not the purpose of asking.
- Asking God for things is not transactional, rather it is us pouring our hearts out to our loving Father and trusting in his goodness
4. Yield
- Surrender is an important part of prayer.
- Above we have praise, thanked, repented, and asked. Now we quietly surrender to the will of God
- A Yield sign indicates that someone else has the"right of way" on the road you are trying to merge onto
- In this part of the prayer we yield to God's right of way in our life.
- There are lots of surrender prayers here are a couple
- God grant me all of these things, or in your wisdom give me something even better
- Jesus I trust you
- I surrender to you will
- Lord, thy will, not mine be done
